Front dr. speaker question for Jay
Jay,
This is from an old post you replied to:
1. Relocated the window channel about 1/2 inch back. I did this with a bolt and nut system. Pic labled "relocated"

My question is:
I'm interested in this as well. When you relocated your window track back 1/2", did you do this only on the end behind the speaker opening?
Or do you have to do it on "both" sides of the window tracks i.e. the left bottom (which you did) and the rightside bottom?
Does this make sense??
Thanks!

Jay,
Thanks! My midbass speakers are touching the frame inside the door and vibrating, so I'm going to try moving the frame back as you did.
Is 1/2" about the max you can go back you think?

I am not sure how far you can go. The thing that concerns me by going to far, is that the glass would be loose in the tracks, when lowered.
Without experimenting, Id have to say 1/2" to 3/4" max.

they are 2 3/4 or so deep I would guess. I have them padded on the backs of the midbass units, but was looking for more room. How far out from the door can you space them and still have the door panel fit back on?
Thanks!
Thanks!

CBDenver:
You can safely do .25 spacing and you can go as high as .50 spacing before contacting the door panel. At .50 spacing you're cutting it REAL CLOSE but unless your speakers have a lot of linear excursion this shouldn't be a problem.
I'm running a set of Focal Polykevlars as my front speakers. They have a mounting depth of 2.75 like yours. I took some MDF that was .25 thick and cut it into a ring that my speaker could fit into and mounted that into the stock location. I then mounted the speaker to that piece of MDF. The magnets don't come into contact with the window channel, my door panels still fit snugly, and I get the added benefit of having a better mount that doesn't resonate as much as the plastic stock mount
Hope this helps.
