Flashing Seatbelt Light & Goldfish & Kids

So, a few days ago, my daughter and I are returning from the pet store with 2 goldfish in a baggie full of water. I, foolishly, succomb to her pleas to hold the fishies while we drive home. After getting her setteled & while I am getting in, she leans forward to show me the fishies and the bag breaks sending water & fish all down the right side of the drivers seat and into my seatbelt area & alarm.

So, alarm still works fine, but seat belt light on dash now flashes even when the seat belt is engaged - it is driving me flappin crazy. DOES ANYBODY KNOW HOW TO DISENGAGE THIS THING? I did a search and all I turned up was something about 2 wires under seat but I dson't see any wires except for my alarm.

Took it to one dealer who said he can't disenage it for liability resons but that he could replace the assembly for a bizzilion $ (OK, not a bizzalion, but still too damn much).

So, anybody know how to do this in a 98 SR5 4x4?

Thx,

m
ays he can't do it for liability even though

Did the fishies live?

Try taking the seatbelt recevier out and spraying it liberally with quick dry electric parts cleaner. It's primarily alchol based, so any water that might be left in there will be carried away with the cleaner. Try doing the same with the connections under the center console.
And, if all else fails, get a used clip from a junk or salvage yard.

wd 40 works well for cleaning electical boards etc. Its non conductive. Its more of a cleaner than lubricant.

There is a switch in the actual seatbelt clip in part. If you remove the driver's seat you should see a set of wires running up into the clip. You can either trace those back and splice them together or dissemble the clip and splice them together.

The wires are connected to the metal rail under the seat. Look on the underside of the seat. It will be in the front and is clipped to the bar.

If that doesn't work. Try following the wires from the carpet and see if it will lead you to the harness.

Alas, I was stalling on the fishies because the truth is I was less than a stellar dad that day. By the time we found them (i.e., by the time I did what I had to do to get the water away from my alarm & CD changer) & got everything calmed down, it was too late. Although tempted to just pitch them, we buried them in a patch of dirt in the neutral ground in the parking lot.

To date, they have not been replace!
