First mod for 3rd Gen 4runner??
Hello all,
For all you 3rd Gen runner people, what would you recommend for my first modification, addition or upgrade. Keeping in mind this is going to be a daily driver and I'll probably be moved all over the country. I already have a more aggressive tire, and am not inclined to do a SAS at this point

Deckplate, tranny cooler and an amsoil air filter is the best bang for the buck at first.
Forget the SAS unless you are a serious offroader or rockclimber.
....Later on, go fo something more streetable like a supercharger and fuel delivery mods.

RTDawgs,
You're close to Columbus, what would you do to start things off? Taking in everything you've learned, as well as the area around here?
Its going to be my daily driver, Im not looking to make it a crawler, just trail ready, or more so than it already is.
I've read that some people think getting a winch first thing is the way to go?
Im doing the deck plate mod this weekend.
Thanks in advance

What are you looking for? Performance? Off-road capability? If it's engine performance, your biggest bang-for-the-buck would be the deckplate and ISR mods.

Hello there 11B ( ahhh.. I always love going down there and dropping the new paratroopers out of our plane down at Ft. Benning
such a good feeling..I just hate it when they all puke in the plane......before we even start engines)
anyhow, I have a used 2001 4runner and the first things I have done were. 1. Take off my running boards.
2. Deckplate Mod
3. Amsoil airfilter
4. synthetic oil
I have my CB to put in and my Rock Sliders (Thanks Stubbs)to get put on here in the near future... Once you start you cant stop... I have plans of a suspention lift in the very near future.
Good luck and have fun.

I think the deckplate and intake were suggested due to the $$$ factor...however, if cost isn't an issue and you are a daily driver looking for a trail ready rig when encountering off-roading scenerios...
then i would suggest doing the suspension lift first...
give it that strong stance, while increasing clearance, and a smoother on and off-road ride!

I'm with Jay,
Though I would lift before you put the bigger skid plates/protection on. Sliders are a toss up, but I would lift first. You don't sound like your going to be doing anything too crazy in your rig and lifting not only looks better but its also more functional. Also, if you put all this extra metal on the stock suspension its going to sag even more so you will basicly be lowering your truck and though you will be protected... why not just clear the obsitlce completely? Yeah, the stock skids suck, but for what your probably going to be doing they are just fine for now. Thats more down the road. I would get lockers before a winch. Just make sure you have a buddy come with you when you wheel and bring those tow straps! With a locker your chances of getting stuck in the first place go way down.
Happy modding!
