I've got a question for those of you with either mod -

I was thinking about going F&N but have fallen on some harder times (not hard times... just harder )

I was wondering if I should go with a deckplate mod with an Amsoil filter?
I wanted to keep all the stock parts as whole as possible so that I could put everything back to stock no problem. Should that even be a concern with the deckplate mod?

OR should I just save up and go F&N? Lately, I've heard some not so favorable things from different places. I have to admit, Dr. Z's volant (sp?) FIPK looks really sharp too!

Suggestions?

Even if you weren't in hard(er) times I'd suggest deck plate mod. Screw $200 for the silly FIPK.

about the elbow removal/dremel cut out (Bob's writeup)... Not that I do any serious water crossing at the moment, but planning for the future, how much does this cut out affect water getting into the air intake?

Do I need to worry about heavy rain?

Sorry, I know these are terrible questions but I just want to be very cautious before making any permanent cuts.

are there Amsoil filters for the second gen 3.0's? If so, where can I get one?

 

There might be one for the 22re, but I know for a fact that there isn't one for the 3.0. Gadget on this forum is a distributor of Amsoil products, at least he was last I heard.

 

Do the deckplate or the elbow removal, not both. There have been no documented gains when running with both. I did both on my runner, and didnt notice any difference. If anything, it may caused an even leaner condition, but so far no pinging for me.

There are no water issues when removing the elbow, unless you are doing crazy stream crossings or something.

You can try both, but I dont think its worth it. Keep in mind the elbow removal is much quieter than the deckplate.

So elbow hides the mod while deckplate seals it. But no noticeable difference with both? Hmmm.

Anyone else running both? Any comments?

I like the idea of having a more throaty sound to my rig so I'm leaning a bit to the deckplate

I am putting two and two together as we respond to eachother on two different posts...

I think I know what your trucks' problem is:

You did the ISR mod before the deckplate and/or elbow mod. You also used a small vacuum line (smaller than stock). I can almost garantee you are running rich at low RPM's, which is why you may not be feeling the full benefits of the ISR mod. This is causing your truck to be sluggish at low RPM's, which is causing the Auto tranny to drop down a gear quicker than before, as you mentioned.

So, to solve your problem, go with the deckplate mod. If you want a deep throaty sound, the deckplate is your ticket. In addition to the Amsoil filter, you can expect a documented 5HP gain on the dyno. Well worth the $50 for the deckplate and the filter.
