I first get under the hood and remove the intake silencer and plug up the FPR. I noticed a smaller sealed "J" tube attached to near the airbox so I capped that too.
Not really noticing too much but then again my airbox is stock so I'll have to wait until I find a deckplate or decide to go for the FIPK from F&N.

While shopping for parts I noticed an external 12V DC so I picked that up and wired that to my tow hitch so that looks really nice too. "I love it when it works the first time"

Got my hopper toolbox in despite some minor fitting problems but managed to work around those too

I even had time to bolt in 2 bike anchors mentioned from this thread . Dang! Those look really sharp! I've got them mounted on to the wheel well so I can just reach under and undo the wing nuts if I need to move them for loading purposes. Yeah, can you tell I'm proud of all the mods today?

Anyhow - I go to show them off to my roommate and when I disarm the alarm I notice that the passenger driving light is out. Thinking that it might be the fuse because of the messing around I did with the 12V plug and the EFI fuse, I check out the microfuse but it's okay. I guess I burnt out the bulb. :cry:

Anyone with any experience taking these things out? I haven't checked out my manual yet (too lazy). I have a WAAG grille guard and I REALLY don't want to have to take it off. Is there anything I should be careful of?

OR should I just take it to the dealer? I'm just a few thousand miles short of the end of my warranty and I'm in due for an oil change too.

Suggestions?

are you talking about your headlights, i think you are, but maybe some lights on your brush guard?

if its your headlights, your dealer will not cover this under warranty.

heres what you do to change it.

1) get a bulb (get 2 that are brighter than stock)
2) open hood
3) look behind the headlights, theres 2 wires that goes into a plug that goes into the back of the light housing
4) twist the plug and pull it out revealing the burnt bulb
5) pull bulb out, put new in
6) re-install is opposite

pop hood, take out a screw or two, take out corner housing, twist out plug, etc, etc...

just get out there and LOOK, youll see exactly what you need to take out for the housing to come out. i think its 1 or 2 screws.

I REALLY didn't want to take off the grille guard!
Oh well.

hmmmm... maybe I should change out the headlights while I'm at it too

You may be able to work it out. I was on my truck.. If not I believe your gaurd has a top bracket and lower mount points.. can you just R&I the top brackets and loosen the lower?? Does your side bar grille inserts come out and does that gain you any room??

they might slide out, is there enough room?

like i said, get out there in your PJs and take a look, Tacos might be different and there might be a plug in the engine compartment...good luck

I start working on my truck now I'll never get to bed. AND I have a meeting with my Chief tomorrow morning!

Maybe tomorrow after I get my tires... oh yeah, looking forward to that!

as for warranty, when i recently took my 4Runner in for routine maint., the mechanic noticed a bulb or 2 burned out in my 3rd brake light. they replaced them. i asked about cost and he said that it was covered under warranty. that the 3yr./36k mi. was bumper-to-bumper. i thought that was quite interesting.

Yeah... according to the dealer (just talked to him) he'll be able to fix it but only if it's accessible with the guard on.

Essentially, I need to take off my guard in order for all this to be fixed under warranty.

Might as well - I'm running low on OEM coolant and it's about time for an oil change anyway.

Next time someone asks if they should get a grill guard instead of a real bumper maybe they should read this. You have to remove them to change a $2 light bulb that should take 2 minutes and a phillips screwdriver.

It's actually not that big of a deal... I was actually just thinking of removing the part of the grille that just goes over the headlights... it came preassembled and I just didn't want to mess with it.

Besides, I'm a little off-center anyway.

but you're right jx...
we should let any future grille guard purchaser know what the deal is.
