Finally ordered the OME883/891 setup from ToyTec! All it took was a steady clicking finger and the money burning my pockets to make me do it Still thinking of what I should do for the shock setup. I'm not quite willing to spend the money for the OME shocks just yet, but might be the next thing to take the plunge. Do the bilstein 5100 series work for our 3rd gens? Might be another couple weeks before I get everything on but I'll keep everyone posted for pics.

 

congrats now you just gotta get a diff drop and a adjustable panhard bar as for shocks i have ome n91s up front and since im cheap skyjacker nitro 8000 rear which where like 25 dollars ea

I ordered the diff drop along with the kit.. I might just do bilstein fronts and maybe the extended long travel shocks from toytec for the rear. Im wanting to do it myself since I've done all my other vehicles, but lack the tools and a shop since I moved away from my home town (i live in my college town). I think my buddy has a garage I can use and maybe he can get ahold of a coil compressor for me. If not I'll make a couple calls to my local offroad shops. i'm afraid they are gonna want too much but I know a couple people, ya know what i mean.

 

i did mine by my self in a garage with basic hand tool a small air compressor and impact gun made it that much more easier

 

Congrats on the purchase. It was a big day when I ordered my full OME kit from Toytec. Man, with 883's you're going to have a lot of front lift, and those suckas are STIFF. My 881's are almost impossibly stiff but I'm kind of liking it. I went for the OME comfort shocks and am very happy with the ride quality.

OME setups typically work the best when paired together (shocks and springs.) I would just run the n86c or n86 depending on how much weight you're typically hauling around.

No use in wasting money buying shocks twice.

 

OK, so why does it look like all the OME lifts are taller in the front and shorter in the back? I know the LC coil lifts are raked higher in the back, and to me it seems the OME are the reverse.
Is there a way or spring//shock combo for OME that is higher in the rear for a slight rake?

 

the 883's have a higher spring rate then the 882's, but are shorter then them. if you get them and think they are too stiff, i'm more then willing to trade you my 882's for them. before i added my bumper and winch i thought it was a perfect ride. Now that i have all the extra weight, i've been meaning to get a set of those to help out.

 

elton has a topout spacer added to his 882's. if you get just the 882's and LC springs in the rear you will get a slight rake of .5-.75" where the rear sits higher. I have pictures of mine floating around here when i first installed my lift and from far away it looked level, but upclose you can tell.

 

I am torn between the OME lift and a Sonoran 1.2.
OME seems like more my need - I haul kids and camping gear more than I climb trails

Throw in a set of 10mm OME trim packers ontop of the rear springs in combination with stock inspring bumpstops and that's an additional .75" of lift. Nice little $25 bonus lift. If you have airbags you will need to cut the bump stop down with a sawzall.

 

I didn't know that.. good to know now. How much shorter are the 883 med coils compared to the 882 HD coils. It's funny how the medium springs are stiffer than the HD springs bc the HD springs are suppose to support more weight I'll let you know if I think they are too stiff.

Gotta remember though, I use to drive a jeep cherokee with lifted front coils and rear add-a-leafs.... talk about a stiff ride. I hope it isnt too stiff though, I might end up getting OME shocks in the long run bc of the worries. I'll just have to wait for the next paycheck. Unless you want to start a JWaldz funding program in which I wont stop ya haha

 

the 883's are suppose to be the same length/lift as the 881 springs. where did you see that it was a medium duty coil? for the 4th gen 4runner's/fj's/tacoma's they are medium duty springs, but for 3rd gen runner's they are extra heavy duty if you want to call it that. people told me my 882's would be stiff without weight on the front, but i thought it rode fine (granted i was driving a lowered accord with suspension that would spank a BMW in cornering). So i'm sure it might just be slightly stiffer then what you had before.

You should've just went with a Sonoran Steel kit, like the 1.2. You would've got everything you needed including bilstiens and probably saved a bit of money.

 

Go with the 1.2...you won't be disappointed. I was stuck in the same position as you, and I'm glad I bought the 1.2 It sits high at first, but will settle after a month or so.
