Fender flares, and WHY

So I went to take the goofy ass fender flares off my 01 Tacoma today. Get the rear right one off, and what do I notice? Besides the like 8 10mm bolts keeping it on in the inner fender well. Well the smart guys at Toyota decided to put HOLES in the bed, for little plastic clips to clip into the fender to also keep it in.

So if I want my stupid looking flares gone, I have to go to a body shop.

:wtf:

What's wrong with them being on there? I know it's bad enough getting rock chips even with them on there on a lot of Taco's with the TRD package.

Think it looks awful with them at stock height, little 10.5 wide tires. What's it to stop those awesome street tires, that don't clean themselves out anyways from getting on the truck.

I got a set of painted Bushwackers ready to go on and I can't wait;without flares I'm throwing stuff all over the sides of the truck with just stock width tires. Hopefully they'll be on next weekend.

So Toyota should anticipate your one off need? Some of us like the fact that the flares are on there securely and don't come off when we rub them on trees. Without those clips, they would be a lot more fragile.

Face it, if you are going to customize a vehicle, you are going to have to do some work.

I've wondered about that... I have 33x12.50 on my rig and no flairs so each tire sticks out like 2" and the cops here never look twice.

Ran my old Bronco with 35's, been pulled over for speeding, cops stopped to look at my truck here in VA and in PA. Fender flares are not needed where I am at.

Do as you wish, and I'm not one to give advice on body work. But if your current paint job is still nice, you will ruin it, even with stock tires if you take those flares off. As someone else stated, you'll get gravel pecks behind the wheels on the side of the body. It will really stand out if you have a dark vehicle. Good luck.
