Just need so outside thoughts here.
I had a 1999 Tacoma motor w/Automatic trans and had it put into my 1998 Tacoma 5spd.
They swapped the wiring harness and flywheel. Installed new clutch kit.
With this now completed, They am unable to get the motor to turn over. Starter tries to engage, but motor seems to be seized.
What are the chances that they improperly installed the engine onto the transmission?
I would have accomplished myself, but was short on time at the moment.

 

Pull the spark plugs out and try to start it; this way if there's anything in the cylinders (coolant) it has some place to go (out the spark plug hole). Was the motor you swapped in a known good motor?

The first motor I bought for my 3.4 swap had a blown head gasket and both heads were cracked, so when I filled the block and radiator with coolant and let it sit for a week, a couple of cylinders filled with coolant and preventing the motor from turning over; hopefully that's not your case.

Something else you could try, the the transmission in 1st, take off the parking brake and make sure that the truck doesn't move. Then press the clutch in and see if the truck will move (you'll probably need a friend to give a push, not much but just enough to see that the truck will move a couple inches).

 

Motor was run about six months ago. Good motor.
Put socket on harmonic balancer, trasmission in neutral, unable to rotate a bit.
Just wondering if it is possible for the transmission to be bolted to the engine and this problem occuring.

 

If the clutch was installed correctly it could in bind in the transmission. Are you sure your transmission is okay? I've seen guys replace the motor because they thought it siezed, turned out to be a bad transmission.

 

Try going in reverse. Jack the rear wheels up, put the transmission in neutral and try spinning the tires (both have to be spun or just spin the driveshaft). See if you can get the transmission to spin without the engine. If that works, put it in gear and have a friend hold the clutch in and do the same thing.

 

did you use too long of bolts on the flywheel and jammed it up against the block?

 

Numerous Answers:
Clutch installed correctly, they just forgot the Pilot bearing.
Bolts where from old engine.
We found that the engine with the automatic had a flywheel spacer that had not been removed. Spacer removed. Motor started.
New problem though.
Check engine light on, motor will run for about 5 minutes then shut off.
Will not restart unless battery is unplugged and then plugged again.
And then the cycle repeats. And check engine light will not reset.
Now for the question:
Is the a sensor for the oil pump that is connected to the truck computer??

 

Pull the code to see what the CEL is on.

 

Check the code. The motor dying is more than likely related to that.
The oil pressure sensor goes directly to the gauge.
