Engine skipping--need some help

On my way home from work today something happened to the engine. It isn't running properly and the best way to describe it is it's skipping. The check engine light eventually came on but there were no signs of overheating. I'm thinking it's a bad wire/coil pack or a sensor went. Anyone else ever experience this or have any ideas?

I was having the same problem, and it turned out to be that the intake tract was gummed up with fuel residue. A procedure called "carbon tune" was done by my mechanic, and that really fixed the problem.

But it could be a number of things. Bad gas. Ignition component trouble. Etc.

Could that amsoil air filter finally have gummed up the MAF sensor?

Mine did the same thing a while back. It was a bad plug. I changed the plugs and wires, and now all is well. Good luck with it.

Was the engine running rough and vibrating the whole truck? Mine is and the exhaust sounds like an old school Subaru. I hope it's a simple fix like yours.

How does the exhaust smell? Rich?
Clean the MAF. Use a good quick dry electric parts cleaner and spray it in there. You might have some debris (dust, oil, etc) causing a faulty connection.
