Engine Problems, need help!

Ok so when I start my car it starts of idling about 1500 then after it warms up the idle drops to 750 or so and idles roughly to where I can feel the vibration in the car. Other times it will start idling a hair over 1k and then goto idling roughly? :wtf: Any thoughts?

If you haven't messed with the timing, and it just all of a sudden started doing this, then it shouldn't be that. Tell us more. When did it start? Does it do it all the time? Sounds like a plug/wire problem to me. If you rev it up does it still miss?

Yea, I would check your plugs and wires. It is likely that one cylindar is missing so I would just do a basic tune up with cap rotor, plugs, and wires if needed.

Well I just got a new(used) engine, and the guy didn't touch the dist. He replaced caps, rotors, plugs, and wires.

You might also want to do a compression check.

Compression will verify the mechanicals and spark and fuel are the only other possibilities. Now mind you there are various components that make up the systems but those are the areas to focus on if the compression is ok. Should be around 170 psi + and within 10% of each other.

ok, well I know about the least of anyone here, but I would second the plugs, cap, rotor, wires, etc. The difference between aftermarket stuff and Toyota (Denso) parts is amazing. Also, here's a real shot in the dark, but it may be a thermostat issue. Maybe reset the computer. One last idea would be to clean your throttle body. I had my idle around 750 RPM and I cleaned my throttle body and it shot up to over 2 grand, just cause it was 'breathing' better. Again, I'm am no sort of expert, so listen to those other guys first, but I though I'd just give a couple ideas.

i'm having similar issues with my truck. resetting the computer and cleaning my throttle body sounds interesting. how might i go about doing this? even if it doesn't solve the problem, it probably won't hurt anything would it?

it is most likely the timing. have it checked/adjusted if necessary. resetting the computer won't do anything, the computer learns slowly and makes adjustments, so if the same problem lasts a few days, it won't help.
