Engine cuts out at full throttle
hey i have a 1996 4runner with the 3.4 5VZFE and the 5spd manual trans. the car has been cutting out at full throttle, but if i ease of the gas a little i can redline the motor if i want(not that i do). when i give it full throttle the car will actually cut the rpms down to 3500 and acts as if its being governed AND I CAN ALSO SMELL FUEL WHEN THIS HAPPENS.the car has 550,000 miles on it, but this motor only has about 180,000 if that. any help is appreciated.

i don t stomp on it haha if you gradually increse to full throttle the same thing happens, and i cant redline the motor currently either....thats the problem. SO, yes i guess that would solve it, but i want to fix it fully. BUT technically no, it doesnt solve anything.

What have you done to troubleshoot the issue?
What is the recent maintenace history?
Is there a vacuum leak in the intake tube or any other vacuum line?
When was the MAF last cleaned?
Last timing belt change?
Air filter clean?
You could have a bad and/or partially plugged injector that holds the engine back when you are calling for lots of power.

I would do a seafoam treatment, more just because it can't hurt then I think it will actually fix it.
Now load up the gas tank with injector cleaner, that could do some good for the issue at hand.
Do you have any CEL's?
A video of the problem would help.

i have run seafaom through the pcv valve already, and it made a differenece in power, but the problem still persisits. i will try seafoam as an injector cleaner too, but No CEL, and i will post a vid of it soon. Thanks
