Electrical Problems - 1991 Pickup (V6)
Hey guys, Im new to this board and also new to the electrical troubleshooting arena. Tonight when i turned on my lights, i heard a fuse blow, and I lost dash lights, side markers, and tail-lights (brake lights work fine). I opened the kick panel fuse box and found a 15a fuse marked "Tail" is blown. I put a new 15a fuse in there, and try the lights again, and it blew as well. I'm really at a loss as to what i should try next, and i should tell you im very new to vehicle electrical.... anyways, i was just wondering if anyone has any ideas. Thanks for any help

Welcome to the Forum! There's lots of great information on here and lot's of good people. As far as your electrical problem, experiences I have had with fuses blowing is something is shorting. Sounds like that fuse runs alot of stuff might be really hard to isolate it!

Yea Thats what Im afraid of... i think the switch is ok, because i can turn on the headlights, use the turn signals, etc.. but, theres a harness behind the speedo, which i looked at already, and i can't see in thing burnt or bare wires touching... but other than that harness i don't know what else to look for...

Well, i took a lot of the accessories out of the picture, and the dash lights work again, so im going to add 1 at a time, and then try the lights until i blow the fuse, and then ill know what caused it

Well, got it fixed! Turns out it was just the cigarette lighter harness that started it all, so i got it fixed and put back together and everything works now. Phew, only 2 fuses and it's fixed, i thot it was gonna be expensive

One of the wires had come partially out of the connector, and was touching the other...hence the short.... how it did that just last night... i have no clue
On a sidenote, while i had it all ripped apart... i changed my turn signals to blue since i was already there. I like the effect!
