Dynomax installation

Has anyone installed their own Dynomax muffler? I'm wondering if there's any welding required or if it can be done with adapters, over-the-counter hangers, etc..

TIA

No place I've found will do it for $20. So far, everyplace wants $60 to $80 to install one, that's why I'm thinking of trying it myself, but, you're right, it's nasty to do on a garage floor.

hey man. i got my dynomax muffler installed for 30 bux. but, if you want to do it yourself, i found some stainless steel exhaust clamps made by dynomax in the summit racing catalog. perhaps those would do the trick.they are only 8. 50 each.

The 17747 Super Turbo is what I'm interested in.

Well, it's next on my list, no matter what. After that, I'll be saving pennies for the Bilsteins.

I will agree with Phil and everyone else and say you can probably do it with clamps. That is all mine is together with. I had Midas install mine and I think it was like $20-30. Not too much. No leaks that I am aware of, so I am happy! Do it man! :fireman:

I just got my new one. My old one got a hole in it. I got the 17748. Thats the 2.5" center in, side out. I went that route just in case I decided to go to a full 2.5" exhaust. If I done, I did not see that it would hurt having the 2.5" one in place. I will install it to my existing 2"/2.25" setup using adapters and will have it welded in place just for the ease factor. I will probably get it done next week.

Willie, how old was your first muffler? Also, how did it get a hole in it? Stone, rust, etc? Just wondering. I have mine and was just wondering if yours rusted! Thanks! :fireman:

Old as dirt.

Well, not quite THAT old. I got it I believe in 1995 or 96. I used it on my 87 GP that the engine has thrown a rod in. I want to sell it now (the GP that is). See pics here.

I used the dynomax on there up untill 1999. Then I pulled it off to use a flowmaster and a cat test pipe. In 2000 I installed the dynomax on the runner. It worked well untill now. I cant tell if it got banged up or what, but the seam is cracking at the exit end. Really, it spent most of its life on the GP. I thought I would have it welded in place but im thinking I might go with clamps pr flanges. Later.

Well, I found a place to install the muffler for $40, so I just ordered one from Summit. Price with shipping totals to about $48.

Should have it installed by the end of the week.

Sometimes it seems like I already do that! I love this thing - I think it's the best built vehicle I've ever had.
