Durabak instead of paint job.

Durabak instead of paint job.
I just got back from a weekend trip-- parked at the trailhead was a Bronco II that was completly covered with camel colored Durabak (which is a polyurethene coating used for bedliners). The finish had a rough texture but was professionally done, and looked very attractive and durable. Very differerent than paint, but appealing nonetheless.
My 2nd Generation is at the point where it badly needs a paint job. This seems an interesting and unique alternative. Does anyone here have experience with such a coating? Cost? Durability? Where to get it done? Has anyone tried to apply this themselves?
I would be very interested in any information about Durabak or similar products as an alternative to a paint job.
Thanks!

Go with Herculiner. http://www.herculiner.com If you want more opinions or to see how it looks use the "SEARCH" function and look up Herculiner. I saw a PIC somewhere a guy had Herculined his whole Jeep Wrangler. It looked pretty good, for a Jeep. But quality is all in the prep work!

Like he said, its all about prep. I've heard of people doing it and then after a few washes huge pieces just coming off...if you got it professionally done, say Rhino Lining, you're looking at some HUGE $$$. It's about $400 bucks for a bedliner only! I can't imagine what it would cost for the whole thing to be done.

Line-X is getting good reviews for its durability too. I just found this interesting article:
http://www.off-road.com/jeep/cheroke...inex/linex.htm
It seems that the amount of material used is similar to a large truck bedliner, which is applied much thicker than an exterior coat would be. I'm gonna call the Albuquerque Line-X rep and see what they say. There seems to be mucho cost savings in doing the prep work yourself.

Three years ago I did the bed of my Tacoma with Duraback. It took me one gallon and for two coats and I used there roller a brush and there thinner to prep the bed and thin the second coat. It came out so good I still have people asking me where I had it done. Hauled stone , sand and dirt with no problems.
I did touch it up this year with a thined coat of oil base rustoleum. I do know that alot of people who race Ba-Ha paint there vehicals with this stuff . It's not cheap , If I remember right it cost me a little over $100.00 for a gallon and thinner three years ago. Do a good prep job and it will last as long as any of the pro jobs and look better.
