Need FAST info - dealer wants $1200 for driveshaft

truck is at the dealer for what I thought was a case of u-joints. Just called me and there is a crack in the driveshaft, in the front spline between the 1st and 2nd u joints.

They want $1200 for the shaft alone. I am going to kill someone.

what options do I have? There are no junkyards around here, is aftermarket ok? How can I find someone to pull this part off a wreck and overnight to me?

A new aftermarket driveshaft comeplete should run $400 - $500. Don't let the dealer screw you.

sure there are junkers but none seem to have toys. They said that they could not find an aftermarket shaft, neither could I from the few calls I made.

I have a transmission guy who thinks he SHOULD be able to repair it, keyword SHOULD. This is if I can drive the car 20 miles from the dealer to the shop in the first place.

There is a wrecking yard on Staten Island. It's right over the Bayonne bridge.
I don't think they allow you to pull your own parts anymore though.

I'll look for the name and edit it in.

EDIT: http://www.bayviewautowreckers.com/ They had 4R's there when I went a few times for parts for other cars.

start calling up junk yards, and if they dont have one localy have them ship it in. This is an easy fix. definitely not worth $1200

I had TWO custom driveshafts built for $500.

Did they even offer to kiss you first?

thanks fellas for the help and links.

I limped the truck over to a driveshaft guy who is going to replace it for a good price. Oh and the nice guys at Toyota offered to also do my front and rear brakes with a bleed for just $850! what a bunch of dorks

See, that is why you don't take you vehicle to the stealership. Just think of all the people that don't know any better and are more than willing to pay those kind of prices.

Just sad how the stealership takes advantage of those people.

"payyourtoll" (a.k.a. "Rob"), & all other 'yoters out there, just a little advice for future reference: "www.rockauto.com" (1-866-ROCKAUTO).
While they're headquartered in Wisconsin, they do alot of shipping out of Indiannapolis for the northern quadrant & always have EXCELLENT prices on all of their remanufactured/reconditioned/rebuilt parts.
Give them a try next time, you won't be sorry.
