my topic seemed to have disappeared overnight, but here goes my question again. has anyone ever done a dually conversion for your truck, or know how its done, is it like chevy that you just change some simple things, or will the rear end of a 1 ton toyota bolt up to my chassy, tec?

i don't know, but it might help if told us what axle you were thinking about?? what truck you are going to be the axle from. This will help in figuring out if things will line up or even work.

im not sure if any of you guys know but Toyota did make a full floating 1 ton dually axle that they put under the motor homes and u-haul trucks, i think it used a standard v6 diff, that axle would handle the weight better than a regular single wheel axle with adapters...

 

I was going to mention that also about the U-haul trucks. Wonder what gears came in them? They where preety common around this area at one time. Probably could find them in some junk yards.

4.10 and 4.30 were the gears. toyota didn't build them with a pickup bed, they were only available in a cab and chassis configuration.

 

Couldn't you just get 16" rims and D or E rated tires? Seems like the Dually conversion is a less practical way to go, even if it is "cool" looking.

 

I see them now and then driving around. Seems they're the older truck but they have flatbeds on them and used by the gardening service companies.

idont know about swapping it... toerh than its full floating, there isnt any major advantage to it... talk to roger brown, he was telling me the differences and what was involved with the swap, he at one point was going to do it and had it researched just didnt for some reason.... there are 1 ton rearends from srw trucks on the 4x2... they use the same standard toy 8" thats in pretty much all the trucks
