Dose anyone know if the stock alternator would be enough to recharge or maintain two batteries.

 

What rig are you running?? Do you know the amp output of your current alternator? I can help ya if you give me some specifics...an alternator upgrade would definitely be a good approach any way you look at it.

I dont know right this minute but its a 2002 tacoma double cab 4x4 with 3.4 engine.I will probably wind up with a bigger alternator if I can find one that hasnt been rewound and will fit.

I couldn't find the exact specs on your vehicle, but I am guessing that your stock alternator is somewhere around 80 amps. My 03' 4.7L Runner was 90 amps stock. Here are a few options I would recommend, but it all depends on what you plan to use the batteries and alternator for. Tom @ mralternator.com is a killer guy to work with, he should have a direct replacement for your sotcker that rates around 150 amps...he had a 160 for me. That should be plenty to run 2 batteries @ 12+ volts all day long...unless you have some ridiculously huge stereo or a lot of lights, winch, etc. Personally, I'd upgrade the alternator for about $250 from tom, add 2 yellow tops @ around $120 a piece, and a battery isolator for around $100...if this not within the budget or unnessecary, just replace the alternator and add a second battery of your choice. Thanks for the information. I figured I needed a bigger alternator.Im just not crazy about rewound ones.Im probably going to get one from wrangler power products.They also sell a battery manager system.Thanks again.

 

My Surf has Dual batteries and I think the basic Alternator only puts out about 55 amps or something like that. Both batteries are wired in parrallel because they can use cheaper batteries and maintain a high cranking out put that is required for the Diesel.

I'm thinking of fitting a higher output alternator if I can find one that fits and has the vacuum pump on it for the ADD because with my aux lights on the alternator struggles plus I'm thinking of putting a couple of amps on the stereo which would further strain it.

Any suggestions as to where you can get an uprated alternator from with the vacuum pump would be gratefuloly received.
