Driving Lights

I want to put driving lights on my Taurus. I am working about 55 min from home and it is real dark coming home at night. My question is are the driving lights sold at Wal-mart any good?

Very doubtful.... a good driving light can't be used when there are ANY other cars around, it's simply too bright. I wouldn't really expect much from a Walmart variety but maybe it's what you're looking for... I'm sure you'll get some more responses soon enough..... However, if you're looking for auto parts, WTH would you go to that hellhole Walmart? Stop down to your local parts store, they will have something a lot more for your money.

I get out of work at midnight. I drive most of the way on a country road. Actually over a mountain, not many cars at night. I am more worried about moose than anything else. I almost hit one a few months ago late at night. scared the hell out of me. I had to look up to see its a**. It sucks, but walmart has great deals. Its just for my Taurus. Not really looking to spend alot of money. The Taurus is my back and forth car to work. Keep the miles off the 4runner.

i got some rectangle lights from walmart. pretty bright. 20 bucks that was worth it. i dont know where youd be mounting them, but these were a breeze. id put them on the taurus if i were you. no sense in spending a lot of money for a situation like this. theyre called baja i believe. id get them if i were you...you can always return them.

Thanks Northface, that is what I was wondering. I didnt want to install the lights and have them not work a week later. $20 is more than worth it. The high beams on the Taurus suck. It does get good gas milage though, around 25mpg. Its good in the snow too. It looks like there is a spot in the front of the car actually. There are aready holes there, and I will have to use rectangular lights. Just need to take some measurements.

Many moons ago when I was driving my very first car, I got into a fender bender that tweaked my passenger side headlight mount down to where it would shine all of about 4 feet in front of the bumper (but the healight still worked!). Being incredibly poor at the time, I couldnt afford to get the fender fixed, but I HAD to have more light than I was getting with just the one headlight.

I went to a local parts store and spent about $20 on a set of driving lights. Mounted them on top of the front bumper and aimed them further down the road than my one 'good' headlight. Worked perfectly for what I needed.. in fact.. those two little lights were actually BETTER than my stock headlights for visibility.

If all you want is auxilliary lighting to 'fill in the gaps' or give you lighting a little bit more 'reach' on your daily commute, then a cheap set of lights will do you just fine IMO. Even if you DO get them from (gag) wally-world.

how about these?

I'm looking for some driving lights for my '04 Taco. These Hella FF75's look pretty nice, and the ebay "buy it now" price is a steel. I've had Hella's before and they're decent lights. Anyone use these FF 75's?

save yourself 20 and go get the ones im talking about at walmart. theyre called baja. trust me theyre bright. ive got 2 sets of piaa (fog and driving), they are extremely bright, and pretty expensive. the walmart ones do compete with them, piaa's win, but walmart ones give them a run in terms of brightness. just my 2 cents.

For my Taurus walmart is good enough. I take good care of the engine, tranny etc. I dont want to get left out in the cold so to speak. Thanks for the input.

i can second the vote that walmart has a decent light for something like this, i have had just about every cheap light at walmart, and all worked ok, harbor freight had some that were just like walmarts but in a differnt package for 7.99 on sale and they were ok, i say go with one of the 30-35 dollar lights walmart sells, most of those work REALLY good for the money, and if you dont like them.

walmart takes anything back.

Get the Walmart ones... Multiple folks over at CustomTacos have reported good results with the Wally World El Cheapo's... If you're not going for serious bling, etc., they should fit the bill... And if you still bash into that moose - you won't be out so much $$$$$ on the deal, right?...

God forbid, thank god for insurance though. There are lots of accidents every year here with moose and deer. Thats one of the downsides of living in the country.

If Wal-Mart has stuff you are looking for, you are lucky.
However, local parts stores need some support to survive since they carry something you would not always get from Wal-Mart.

I have to use a small rectangular light because of where I can mount it. Walmart is 9.99, pepboys is 27.95. I can put the difference in my gas tank and almost fill up.
