Driving with 5 lug nuts

I drive a 1996 3.4L V6 Gas 4Runner and sadly one of the lugs stripped part of the bolt as well as the lug nut so I can't use it anylonger. Can the stripped bolt be easily replaced. I live in a remote area and wonder is it okay to travel with 5 lug nuts on one of the front wheel hubs?

Thanks

5 will keep you together to get another wheel stud at the auto parts store.

Will driving damage the vehicle. I live in a really remote area and wonder how difficult is it to replace the wheel stud myself?

It's not to bad. You'll have to really bang on it with a hammer but it'll come out. Them do the same to put the new one in. Use a real hammer, not some household picture hammer, your gonna need something with some good weight to it. And no you won't damage anything if you drive it with one less lugnut. Some vehicles only have 4 lug nuts.

My 85 4Runner has one broken stud on the passenger rear wheel. I haven't gotten around to replacing it yet. I've been driving it like normal and wheeling it really hard. Hasn't broken or damaged anything else. There are 6 studs for a reason, backup insurance. Should be fine until you get it replaced.

Be forewarned.. my 90 had all six lugs connected by a thin metal band on the inside of the axle flange (foe easier assembly line work) so as I pounded the broken one out I had to snip the metal band..

Sometimes pounding the new one in id awkward.. so I've "pulled" the new lug in with the lug nut..

Looks good, works fine, lasts a long time,,
