Drilling a hole for room in this paneling?
Hey guys, so I have this compartment that is not being used in my 4runner that I wanted to use to store a broken down carbine of mine for when I'm traveling.
I have an AR upper that has a 16" barrel and it is just about an inch too long.
Someone over on ARFCOM mentioned I might be able to drill a hole in the panel to make it fit. I was wondering if doing this would be ok and if the barrel of an AR sticking in a couple inches would be alright.
Here is the area I'd drill, a hole about 1" in diameter.

You will be fine. Lots of guys remove a lot of the internals of that compartment and mount amps and subs etc. You may be the first to mount a machine gun in there. Or, as in 3rd world countries, just make a tripod and mount it on top. Instantly, you are the new boss.

there should be nothing behind there to interfere with what you want to do. it may be easier and safer to remove the whole panel and then drill, but you should not have any issues. I would suggest finding a rubber grommet to go in the hole after you drill it so the plastic edges dont rub on the barrell.
