Does this sound too expensive.......
Alright I want to get a dvd/cd/screen type thing, alarm, and install my varad scanner that i've had for awhile now, I got a qoute from a local shop, tell me what you think. The total would be 2700, with tax and that would include the installation which would take all day. I'm going to have to rent a car to do this.....
-Kenwood KVT-911 DVD touchscreen
-Viper 550 ESP alarm w/backup battery so that if the thief cuts the power the siren will have a backup battery to still go on
-installation for the two items plus installation for my varad scanner that i've had for awhile.
This is the kicker right here....DEI will pay to replace my headunit (the kenwood touchscreen) if it gets stolen because I bought the alarm and the headunit at the same time. That's the only reason i'm not getting the headunit and the alarm at the same time.
After I get this done, i'm going to do the dynmatting.

That's the qoute that Special-T Tinting gave me. I finally went down and checked it out, I might go and call other places, the guy I talked to was really nice though, I think I talked to him for an hour about the stuff I want to put in the 4runner. I'm thinking maybe next month i'll do that, cuz I really want to put that stuff in already.

Can't comment on price for you, but just make sure the guys who install your stereo/alarm/etc., are guys you trust. And don't give out address information wherever possible.
There are dishonest places out there that install your stereo system and alarm, give your address and spec sheet to guys who know what's in there and how the alarm works. After they shut it off and steal your stuff, they throw a rock to break your window and set off the alarm when they leave to make it 'not' look like an inside job.
Just be careful. The only people that ever install stuff like that in my rig or my friends' cars are me, and close friends.

Tha't too expensive in my opinion. I've got my 910 DVD for 800$ and I got my alarm for about 300$ installed. EVen though I got the hook up on this stuff from my friends shop, I'll tell you that the 911 isn't that hard to install yourself. Took me about 3 hours and it wasn't too bad. I know it's possible to find the 911 online for about 1400$ new/shipped. You could do the install yourself and then have the shop do the install on the alarm if your not comfortable doing it. The 911 has a 3 year warranty and if it get's stolen- that's what insurance is for.
Basically in my opinion - too much

Hey sleepy, how much is the kenwood DVD play by itself? How much is the installation by itself? Check to see if a deck replace policy has a maxium amount, they usually do. I never hear of the shop you're talking about, is this a new shop. I used to live and owned a stereo shop in HI. Ask him to see some of installation they did. The warranty is only good as the shop. You might want to spend little more money and get a custom install on the deck since you are spending to much money on it. Custom I mean not using a kit for the deck. They should be able to flush the deck and make it look like it's part of the car (look at my pictures). Are you changing any of you speakers and adding ampifiers, if you are, you should the dynomating the same time. Then they don't have to rip your carpet out twice and it going to be cheap when done at same time.

Yes, Dave. I carry all the necessary stuff to fix my tire, if it goes flat. Since my runner is a 2WD, I don't go 4wheeling. I have almost everything from patches to slim, fixaflat, plug, even duck tape. Oh, I have a compressor mounted in the back also. Long as its not a total damage to the tire I can repair it on the road. Last resort I can call AAA to tow it. I saved all the parts I cut out so I can put it back if I have to.

I don't know how long they've been there, butnut went there before for the tinting I think. I already replaced my speakers and got the amps so I don't need to do that. I was thinking of a custom install but it sounds kinda expensive for that. How much would insurance be????? I already don't have coverage for stolen property in my regular car insurance because my premium is already pretty high because i'm so young and the car is brand new. The "HUPP" program put out by DEI will cover any headunit up to 2500, so basically every headunit out there. I think the 911 would be 2200, installation for that would be 250, the alarm and backup battery would be around 300 and that would not even include tax. I know I could buy the 911 on ebay for about 1800 with the buy it now price, but it wouldn't be covered by the HUPP program put out by DEI. They look like they do quality work. I've seen pics of stuff they've done and i've seen the screen itself and I like it, it's very clear. I was thinking I would redo the dash so that I could put a little cover so that if you looked inside my car you would just see a black piece the now headunit so it would look like I just removed the headunit and there would be nothing to steal anyway. Everything else in my car either looks stock or it's covered so I don't have to worry about that. I may do the dynamatting at the same time too, although if I add that in then I might have to wait awhile, my eyes are getting too big for my wallet.

I don't have to worry about places I go to that would steal my stuff because the car doesn't live where I live, even though it's my car. Nobody else pays for it but me, so they would only have my address on file and the car wouldn't be there anyway.

I never thought of that angle Al, but that is good advice about the addy. I met the owner (Keith) several times and he's good. An old school Datsun kustomizer freak like me too. Two of my friends recommended his shop to me. I saw their stereo and killer tint (graphics) work...nobody better IMO. They have stereo competitions there too. If I had the bones to spend on stereo stuff, I'd use 'em. umsam, I know I talked to ya before...what other name did you go by?

Hey sleepy, sounds like you did your homework. Long as you think you can trust the shop's work and they have good customer service, they should be ok. I would definitely get the alarm and the deck together. It's worthwhile to pay little more to get a peace of mind. I would not buy the deck at Ebay. There are lot of moving part on that deck, if it ever breaks, it's nice to just take it to the place you bought the unit to get it warrantied. Disguising the deck is a good idea. I have a fake cover for my stereo, too. I made it out of a old toyota deck. I took the front panel of the the old deck and silicone all the buttons. Don't use hot glue, it will melt in the truck. I use the hot glue to hold it in place first and applied small amount of silicone afterward.

Quick ?...On that 550 ESP alarm...I was looking at one earlier this week....Wanted to add the remote start option..the shop wanted an extra 300 dollars tho! You price out the remote start option for your 550??

Nerf, I didn't price out the auto start because I don't want it. Although the shop i'm going to has three different viper alarms, and the 550 was the one in the middle, i'm not getting the best model they have because that's more of a convinence alarm, that one had remote start and stuff on it, i don't think it was too much money maybe like 350 total??? I can ask if you really want to know, because the 550 is only like 300, I could probably add the remote start but i'm not sure how much it would cost.
