DIsconnecting Rav4 driveshaft?

I need to tow my '99 rav4 with a dolly and I need to disconnect the diveshaft. How much of a pain is this? (manual trans w/4wd)

I don't know for sure, but it shouldn't be too bad. Disconnect it at the rear axle and not at the XF case. You can then get some heavy straps and strap it up to hold it out of the way and let the rear diff turn freely. If you disconnect it at the XF case, then the axle will still spin and will eat through the strap and fall - bad. Or you can completely remove it if you want to be EXTRA safe.

make a mark on both yokes so you can reattach it the same way it came off

I know that the RAV 4 has a similiar AWD system as my All-Trac. Mine has a switch located on the back (firewall) side of the transmission. It can either go in AWD, FWD or all in N. Of course they only recommend the FWD or N for towing only.

Call the dealership and see if they have anything like that on the RAV.
