different catalytic converter

will a cat from a smaller engine size (1.8L) cause any problems or cause a worse performance on my 22re?

to be specific the catalytic converter is from an integra gsr, a guy from school thought id want it so he brought it to school.

2.25" is too large for a stock 22RE, but you can probably have a muffler shop put reducers on each side. I am not sure what that would do for you performance, but it probably would not lower it.

I'm not sure how accurate this is, but, if it's smaller it might not have the correct capacity to successfully catch all the toxic gases. Correct me if I'm wrong. How strict are the IL smog checks?

This particular cat is actually bigger than stock. It should catch all of the toxic gases as long as it is in good shape. If you install it, you might want to go ahead and upgrade the rest of the cat back exhaust to 2.25" with a free flowing muffler. 2.25" is suppose to be the maximum size for the 22RE without lowering your low end torque.

i planned on it but i thought 2" was for the 22re and 2.25" for the 3.slow?

You will have to measure, but the 22R has 1.75" pipe. I believe the 3.0 has 2". Check out this website for more information:
