difference between the R150 and R150F?
I currently drive an '89 Toyota 1ton pickup with a 3.0 V-6. It has the R150 transmission, the 2WD version of the R150F, used in 4x4's with the V-6. I have been kicking around the idea in my head that one day I would like to drop a solid axle in the front, but I've heard that you need to swap out the 2WD transmission for the 4x4 tranny and t-case. I was wondering since the two trannies are almost identical, could I get away with using the R150 hooked up to a Toyota t-case?

i have a bit of a hunch that it might be as simple as a tailhousing swap. ask on marlin's board, he's great with these kinds of issues as he's the best toy tranny man on the planet.
i think the most desirable thing to do is find an R151F transmission and put it behind your V6. 23 spline output so you'll never break it

R150 vs. R150F
Did you ever get an answer if they are compatible? I have a 1999 V6 Tacoma 4x4 and a friend has an R150 tranny. I want to put my transfercase on his R150 and run it on my Tacoma. Will it work?
