Diesel?

as some of you know the 22r-e broke something, sounds like kids and hammers in it for like 3K miles, well she gave up the ghost and will not start. So time for a motor,

I would like to do a small diesel like they have in other placeses... any sugestion on where to find one or if anyone has done it,

Thanks

Shawn

Moved out to the general forum, I think you'll have a better chance of getting a response there.

where you from KERR? there is an 84 toyota 4x4 with a 2.8L toyota turbo deisel sitting here in town. Don't know what the guy wants for the truck. But it's been rolled, so I'd imagine he'd sell it a little cheap. I'm thinking bout buying the truck and swapping cabs on it. but money is a little tight right now.

i *think* the 3L(2.8L) and 5L(3.0l) diesels may bolt up, but i know for sure that the 2L will bolt directly to your engine mounts and to a w56 tranny with the diesel bellhousing. basically you only need to wire the fuel pump and starter to get it running, but it's a good idea to hook up the glow plug harness if you live in a cooler area

Ever think of using a Mazda rotary engine? Those things are light as hell. Plus you can make them really crank out some power. I've talked to a few people that use them in tube buggies. And they claim to be getting around 300 hp. at 10,000 rpms. I've never weighed one. But they are as light as an old VW beetle engine. Maybee around 200 lbs.

the problem with mazda rotaries is that they have no torque at all, which isn't good in a typical 4x4. good sand rail engine, bad truck engine

Kyle, I do agree with the lack of torque that the rotary engine has. But you can kinda cheat a little by using lower gears. the buggies I mentioned earlier run 404 portal axles under them. So, I'd imagine that they are pretty low geared. Those buggies work pretty darn well. I've seen them climb 6-7 foot ledges without even spinning a tire.
