DECKPLATE mod. ????????????

i am want to do deckplate mod. but have concerns, my truck has 231,000 miles and wonder if changing the air flow with that many miles is a bad idea. The motor is stock and original and runs great but the pig needs more balls. but dont want to hurt it.

It's not going to hurt but having it help is also debatable.

Your engine will turn to slag.

The only thing you will hurt is your gas mileage.

Ummmm....after 231,000 miles and still running great...I wouldn't change a thing. Keep doing what you've been doing. The 3.4 is a dawg of a motor as far as expecting more "balls". Even supercharging and fuel mods, headers, exhaust etc. your HP is about equal to a stock 4th gen or any other new sport ute. So adding a deck plate mod. wouldn't be much of an improvement. For more balls in a 4Runner, may I suggest a newer 4th gen

Going to have to disagree with you Dave. While spending $25,000 will get you more HP, it isn't going to give you the satisfaction of working on your own rig to make it a little bit more powerful.

To the orginal poster, go for the deck plate and ISR mod. The truck will rev a little more freely, have a bit more pep and give you a better intake sound.

The major limiting factor on your rig is weight. No doubt you are carrying around a 100LB spare tire, foot rails, extra seats etc-you don't need. Also, that auto tranny sucks a lot of power along with transfer case.

However, go for any mods that help the truck breathe easier without sacrificing reliability (K&N filters being a bad modification).

One thing to consider is whether you are running stock tires for your gearing. If you aren't, consider looking into smaller tires.

The 4runner, while it doesn't feel speedy, actually gets around pretty quick. However, given its flying brick stature, it won't do 110 on the freeway or get up to speed as quickly as a little car or over powered truck..

OK, all for now.
