Deck plate/intake mod completed-seems to work

I know there are some that say the deck plate mod doesn't work or for that matter ditching the intake muffler.

Here is what I say, I disagree. It does work. My truck now actually has a powerband.

There is a hundred write ups on how to do it. My advice, dump the intake muffler and put in the deck plate.

One quick note on the deckplate over the elbow mod. Go with the deckplate so you can maintain the snorkel function.

Be forewarned, after completion, upon mashing the gas pedal, you will be greeted with substantial intake noise. Thus the reason the Yota engineers put on the muffler for the grocery getter crowd. My wife comments on it. I tell her...."you want more power or not"?

I think the screen mod is overhill and not really needed. Ultimately, the intake suffers (in stock form) in so many ways. Adding the deck mod and pulling out the intake muffler helps all that.

Now if only someone made a better intake manifold....the 4runner could be perfect.

Yes, a 25 cent o-ring and a 5 cent piece of screen to reduce bugs and other contaminants from clogging the $20 air filter or even keeping nesting rodents out is excessive.

It all depends what you are going for. I am not too worried about any of those problems. My air filter (True flow) won't really get clogged and we don't really have a rodent problem. I check my air filter regularly. It just seems like one more thing to deal with.

Then again, some thing the mod all together is overkill.

The silencer constitues most of that noise, but I'm still convinced that the elbow mod is quieter than the deckplate.

The problem with the elbow mod is loss of high water usage. I agree that most won't use that feature....but is should be known.

I have heard numbers of 5-7.

I know before, there was no powerband. It was pretty linear. Now when it crosses 3K, there is actually something happening in the little engine.

I did the mod--and will get my truck dynoed--but my motor is not stock at all--so it would be a mute point. Maybe i will try it with and without the deck plate and see what it does on the dyno.

The Deckplate Mod made my truck come alive, it can actually breathe...try running a mile breathing only thru a straw.....that'z how your truck feelz w/ the stock intake.
And as far as the "screen mod" that little screen haz kept lotza stuff from going into my airbox.....the more it stopz...the better. plus it lookz kool

Another thing is to update the intake manifold gasket.
