Damage to my 4Runner

Two mornings ago, I got a knock at the door. It was my neighbor who lives across the street and down one house. He just backed into my 4Runner!!

The night before, I was forced to park in the street, as my brother and his wife were visiting. My spot was pretty much directly behind my neighbors driveway and I didn't think that much about it.

Apparently the guy just didn't check his rear-view before backing out of his driveway and his rear drivers side bumper hit my front driver side door.

I was fearing much worse, like stuck doors and the like, but I was relieved when I saw the actual damage. We've already gone through the insurance process, and all I have to do is take it to a shop to get fixed and they will bill his insurance. I should get fixed up with a rental, as well.

Here's the damage:

Nothing that can't be fixed, but most likely, the door, the fender, the metal peice in the running board, the black trim peice and the part directly under the door will have to be replaced.

Are your fender flares starting to rub and rust the body?
Can't tell it that is rust or dirt.

well VA, ya got lucky if you ask me. most boobs in this world would've taken off and left you with a "present". you should buy your neighbor a beer---and a larger rear view mirror.

My vote is rust. Fender flares without gasketing will eventually always rub through the paint and make a rust spot.

The guy that dropped off the dude whose 4Runner I detailed this weekend was backing out of my driveway, well really he didn't pull in the driveway all the way and kind of did a poor 3 point turn, anyway, he NAILED my neighbor across the street's mailbox with his tailgate on his Heep Cherokee. I had to turn away to laugh!

But my neighbor will think I did it now!

Yeah he's a pretty decent guy - no hard feelings. I think we'll be at his house on 2/1

Yes it is rust

Is that normal for factory fender flares? As far as I know, they were on there when the car was bought new.

Your so lucky your neighbor was kind enough to tell you, most people would be "quiet" about it...

Good luck with the repairs and don't sign anything until your are satisfied.

You will probably be in luck for taking care of the rust (due to the accident). Pull off all your flares and take care of it now so you keep the 4runner in good condition. I bet the bodyshop will cut you a bit of a deal if you get it all done at once. When you are done make sure to do the gasket mod on the flares or they will rub through again in short order.
