OK, hopefully this is the right plug

OK, so I'm impatient...just bought this..

BWD PT200 from Advance (same place I got the alt)

I hate when shipping is more than the item I'm buying, but adding an extra $70 just to get free shipping seemed excessive, although I'm sure I could've found some things the garage or truck needed.

Anyone tried the 170 Amp "Denso" that I see on eBay?

so i know that the Toyota Alternator was 3 wires... and every CS-144 has the capabilities of being 4 wires... but all you need is the pos, neg and ground... i spliced right into the existing wire harness w/o riding the harness of the yota plug to allow myself to swap out either alternator whenever. ensure you tighten the huge 10 guage power wire down to prevent any corrosion or connection issues... you'll be fine brother

shucks, i'm upgrading my wiring. 2 gauge from the alt to the battery, and to the buss-bars i'm making. i know it's overkill, but it's one less thing i might need to upgrade down the line. and besides, since i've gotten the truck, i've nearly doubled the amount of wiring. there isn't a single circuit i haven't touched

Any updates? You do know your posting abou tthis in the 3rd gen/taco section? I got my bracket you posted need to order an alt and plug. I keep hearing that the CS144 is the way to go or powermaster. Stay away from the CS130. A guy over on MUD is doing the same upgrade as well.

i guess i didn't realize where i was posting. that set-up went into my 93 pu. oops. oh well, in any case, the alternator is doing just fine. no massive dimming of the lights at idle, no dimming of idle when lights are turned on. i've since upgraded my wiring, which is holding up nicely

From what I have read in my research the cs130 is known for overheating. That's one reason GM designed the cs144 as it's an oversized case for cooling, but I'm no expert.

ah. ok. well, if this one gives up the ghost (i mean, it is sitting under the exhaust manifold), then a cs144 it is. maybe 300 amps the next time...

Just got mine installed. Any issues with the new alternator touching / rubbing on the thermostat bypass hose? Mine contacts the hose and even bends it a little.

Other than that, the install went very well. I was able to re-use the stock belt and just had to add a couple washers on top and loosen / re-position the lower bracket as mentioned. The pulley was a little wide but I don't think the belt will slip from where it is.

OK, I've had my CS-144 for a few months now and I'm FINALLY getting around to doing this. I haven't pulled my old alternator off yet, but it looks like the circle that the belt rides on (pulley?) is wider on the CS-144 that I bought thatn the stock alternator...did I get the wrong one? Should I swap pulleys from my Denso? Will it matter if I use the new alternator as-is? Much love for the helps, Yoters!

I just read your post here...so have you had any issues with the belt slipping on the wider pulley?

Thanks!

No, I haven't had any issues with the belt slipping or with the bypass hose. Just make sure to seat the belt so it's inline with the other pulleys. It should use the part of the pulley closest to the alternator and the unused portion of the pulley should be towards the front of the truck. Looking down at the pulley standing in front of the truck it should look like this.

-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x belt
-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x belt
-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x belt
---------------------------- open
---------------------------- open

Good luck!

Not to bring up an old thread, but this is exactly what I was looking for!

I've had my '01 4Runner SR5 for about 3 weeks now... I have a 1200W monoblock in the back to wire up and want to ensure I have enough juice to run everything (including a secondary deep cycle battery).

Anyone know of a higher amp alt that will work, or should I just look into getting the CS-144 rewound for higher output?

I came from BMW and swore I would never drive anything else, granted I do miss my 740i...... but this dang Toyota has grown on me something fierce

how much of a high-output do you need? cs-144 comes in anywhere from 35 to 300+ amps, so i think you can find what you're looking for

I prefer to buy local now days... fleabay is fine for some things, but anything I'm looking to put into my rig, no thanks. However, it's nice to know it comes in 300amp versions. I'll figure my needs based on current draw from the amp and go from there. Figure 1200W/12v = 100A... so if I grab a 200A ALT it should give enough juice to run all the normal stuff and have overhead for my amp plus a little extra.
