crashed it, what are my options

I feel like i betrayed the vehicle (98 4runner) because it has gotten me through so much and has never let me down. Now these vultures at the tow yard want to salvage and I'm not sure my options. I hit a guard rail and messed up the front left corner pretty bad. I got a couple opinions and they say the front corner of the frame is twisted and that it's probably not worth fixing (6-7k in repairs was the estimate)

Should I give it to the tow yard in exchange for tow/storage fees ($400)? Or should I try to find a rightful owner who values it for what it is (mostly for its parts). It is 98 limited 4runner, 160k miles and it was in really great condition before I messed it up. Over the past 5 years I've replaced all parts as my mechanics have recommended. What could it possibly be worth? Like $1000 tops? I'm feeling pretty lousy that I messed this thing up after everything it has given me. I know somebody out there will value it for it is and be able to put it to good use, I just don't know if I will find them in time.

Why not pay the storage fee and bring it home? Then figure out the best option.

You are right, I just didn't know if it was worth my time. If i'm paying $400 for the towing fees, how much could I reasonably expect for a well maintained but undriveable 98 4runner?

Red face

Sorry for your loss it can be quite painful.

Where do you live??

Easy $1200.00 to $1500.00 for the complete vehicle

More if you part it out.

Yes get it home the towing company is looking at a fast couple hundred $$

The price you were quoted is repaired to like new could you live with it fixed to drive and legal with maybe body work not so pretty.

Be nice to know engine and trans.

Look at the fine print of your car insurance policy. They might compensate some towing fees in case of break down/accident.

Its up to you how much work you can do. You could SAS it, cut the bent frame section out and weld in new, go from there.

Thanks for the responses guys. I was under the gun with the tow fees and in the middle of moving my residence, I ended up giving the title to those bastards for $400 in towing fees. I also didn't have anywhere to get it towed to (i live in an apartment)

I really wish I could've found a rightful owner who would put it to use. Never thought I'd get so attached to my vehicle, every time I started it up I thought about how lucky I was

I have a few photos

that sucks, it would have been a great candidate for someone to do a 3.4 swaps.
Looks like you are in Colorado, there is a Budget Built Toyota Crawlers page on facebook, i am sure one of those guys would have given you more than the $400 for it..
heck it you were in my neck of the woods i would have tried to scrounge up some cash, your engine would have motivated my POS 81 along nicely.

Sorry for the loss of your truck, hopefully you can find another one sometime..
