I've been chasing down a squeek in my 96 runner for a few days now. It is a 3.4L. I replaced the fan bracket a few months ago with a cheap aftermarket one..Big Mistake after searching and reading the threads here on yotatech. Seems the bearing is already gone bad on the bracket so I am off to buy the OEM fan bracket.

I am almost positive that is where the squeeling is coming from but I noticed a visible wobble in the crankshaft pulley tonight. Not terrible but I can definately see it wobble. is this norm? Should it have any play at all?

 

Crankshaft pulley should not wobble or be loose. Remove the belt & see if the pulley is loose. I assume the "fan bracket" is the fan clutch? Did you tighten properly? Don't forget a new belt when you do the work.

 

There have been more than a few incidents of the crank pulley bolt working loose after a timing belt replacement. Get that looked at ASAP because a loose pulley can bugger up and possibly ruin the crankshaft ($$$$).

 

X2, the crank bolt on the 5VZFE should be torqued to 217 ft-lbs. No wobble.

 

HB is hosed. It is seperating from the rubber. At the shop getting fixed now. Damn things are expensive!

 

Well I got hosed from Advanced Engine Exchange in Louisville, KY with the loose crank bolt. They did the engine swap, and put a new timing belt/water pump on while they had it out. Guess what, they didn't torque the crank pulley properly which in turn wobbled slightly causing the keyway on the crank to become rounded which then lead to the crank sensor taking bad readings and causing a stutter at @ 3800 RPM. A mechanic in Garner, NC went to a website and found the fix for the stutter and it clearly stated that it's typical after a timing belt install that the pulley isn't torqued properly and causes this. Did your truck have a stutter at that RPM range? When all was said and done with mine, I paid a $715.02 bill to fix what should have been a warranty issue with Advanced Engine Exchange but they said the mechanic made it all up and replaced parts that didn't need replacing. ANYWAYS, make sure they check the keyway and retorque that bolt. My crank was still good but I had to replace the timing belt, crank pulley, keyway, balancer and he put newer timing parts on since it was all apart.
