2" Cornfed spacers up front, already purchased. 2.5" RevTek spacers in the rear (someone just offered to sell them to me). Should I use the 2.5" RevTek spacers in the rear w/stock coils? It's obviously cheaper than buying two rear OME springs. Is this a good or bad choice, and why?

depends if you do towing and haul alot of stuff. alot of people recommend running replacement coils in the rear. personally, i'm running cornfed 2" spacer in the rear with ome/spacer combo in the front. i perfectly like this setup.

 

I don't tow or haul. Do you think there may be any problems rolling w/Cornfeds in the front & RevTek in the rear?

The rear RevTek 2.5" spacers will cost me $35 + shipping whereas the rear OME springs will be at least $120 + shipping.

Is it worth the price difference? Will this not be good for onroad ride quality or offroad articulation?

But ya know, the more I read about the lifts, the more discouraged I get. Now OME doesn't seem to be the answer. As per your suggestion, it seems Downey rear coils would be the way to go. I certainly don't want 3.5" of lift in the rear, so I hope they do only lift it around 2.5" after all is said and done. I don't even know how much they cost yet anyway. If they are much more than OMEs I won't be going that route.

Then I guess I have to make sure I have limiting straps & the e-brake bracket and then possibly the panhard bracket... I don't know how to weld, so I'd have to pay someone to do that. If I take the rear springs to a garage to do, I'll have to give them instructions regarding the e-brake bracket & the limiting strap. What a headache.

Sadly enough, stock is starting to sound better now with regards to the lift. Maybe I'm just in info-overload stage.

 

i say get the downey coils. i got the cornfed 2.5 in front and downey coils in back. downey says they're 3.5 inch, but they really only lift you 2.5 inches, so it's a perfect setup. when i was researching my suspension lift, the consensus seemed to be against rear spacers and for the downeys, and i agree. i'm happy with it. mike at xtreme off-road can set you up with some.

 

Are the e-brake bracket & the limiting strips mandatory for Downeys AND OME rear springs, or just Downeys?

 

Everyone should really install these items reguardless of the parts you choose.

 

Unless your skid plates are destroyed due to off-road use. Leave it stock. Only lift it if you really "need" to.

In the end to do any lift will require alot of money.

 

Most of what I read on the OME set-up says most people get by without having to relocate the e-brake bracket. I think its worth extending the brake line and moving the bracket as a precaution, and neither of these is technically challenging. I don't think anyone makes anything for the panhard for 3rd gen 4-runners. I've been trying to figure out for weeks what to do for a lift, everyone has their own opinion.

I've heard several people say that the OME coils vastly improve the ride over stock coils. I think any of the OME coils are going to give you some lift in the back, so I'd do either spacers OR coils. The spacers are cheap- try them out, if you don't like them, sell them to someone else on the board- I'm sure they'll get picked up pretty quick.

Excuse my ignorance in the previous post! I forgot that I had seen your information on the panhard drop bracket in the past. Are you still making these?

Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond my control, I just don't have the cash to go with Downeys right now. Maybe not even this year (with the other things I have planned).

I'm going to go w/2" Cornfeds in the front & 2.5" Revteks in the rear for now. That will change someday for sure, but at least I'll still have some lift for now and get some more use outta my stock springs.

I'll swap the rear out for Downeys and swap the front out for SAWs sometime down the road.

Something else I just thought of- you may want to add differential drop spacers- 3rd. gen's can run into CV problems with lifts.

 

mandatory for neither, recommended for both. although Steve is the only one i know of running limiting straps with OMEs. the straps are only for an instance where the rear shock breaks, its only a precautionary measure, they dont limit travel.
