Holy fender flare batman!!

 

I must say, that is pretty awesome in a different, unique sorta way.

If baloons can serve a purpose... COOL! still not a fan of the flares though. I assume they had to make it street legal or something

most likley for artic crwaler they needed the wide fender flares to prevent snow from being thrown allover the truck. My 33s throw rain water into the runner when the windows are down.

I saw a video featuring trucks built just like that. I imagine like stated above, they are Designed for serious backcountry snow-travel. In Greenland I guess they are as common as our 3 inch lifted Taco's and Runner's.

 

Those pics are from Iceland. I lived there for two years and loved every minute of it. Trucks on 44" tires are as common there as Honda Civics are here. The fender flares are required by law to cover most of the tire. The majority of trucks in Iceland are built for a purpose - not for posing as is seen all too much in the US. They favor cutting out wheel wells and adding flares over simply lifting the trucks to ridiculous heights. It keeps the center of gravity low, yet allows fitment of enormous tires for snow flotation. I have seen a few trucks with up to three transfer cases. Talk about crawl ratios! These guys know what they are doing - you have to see it in person though.

looks good for going throught the snow with the wide track and the wide tires. I wouldn't mind having that if I lived there.

 

Wow those are some reeedonculous fender flares. I would love to take the runner out in some snow like that too. Not a whole lot of that here in GA, unless it's like April or some other completely random time for us to get it. Gotta love that spastic weather we get...

 

It's pretty safe to say he probably isnt running a stock 3.slow wouldnt you think?

 

If he is then 0-60 wouldn't apply.

Dear sir I send you another picture of my 4Runner and a small description
It is ´93 has a 5,7 Lt1 witch has been stroked so it is 383cid around 350
hp, auto trans 4L60 the axels came from Land cruiser and they have electric
lockers both front and rear. The transfer cases are two the main one is New
proses 231 and the crawler is NP 203. Suspension is Koni and springs in the
front and air in the rear. The tires are ´´44 Dick Cepeck and the rims ara´´
18 wide (now with bed locks) The front end has been length the hood and the
fenders are 10 inches longer and are made of plastic. The navigation is a
Garmin GPS and is connected to a Pc computer. I could keep on for a long
time, but this is good for time being.

 

Hey gang. You guys ever see that Discovery Channel special on the rescue teams in the artic? They had Landcruisers with a similar setup to that 4runner except much more capable. It was awesome. They showed how they rebead a tire when they popped off the rim from low PSI. They sprayed the inside of the tire with flammable liquid and then ignited it. The expansion from the explosion rebeaded the tire. It was an awesome show if you guys ever get the chance to see it again.

 

starter fluid, ether they all work for that tire trick. its not too safe but in a fix it works. pretty fun to do aswell you feel like your settin a bomb off

 

Actually those land cruisers were EXACTLY as capable as the 4Runner, they were built in Iceland for the Antartica Trip. There was an incredible series of articles maybe 10 years ago in one of the magazines about taking a trip in Iceland with these guys. They got stranded in a storm, experienced breakdowns, lived for days in the back of those rigs, and were safe and well (although getting cold and scared) when they were rescued. Amazing stuff, and an amazing place to play. Newbies need not apply, the old hands die out there if they make a mistake or break something they can't fix. Awesome.
