Completed Improvised Intake Mod
This took more time going to the hardware store than actually installing it. It also only cost around $15-17. My buddy and I got bored, plus it was a good reason to take off the mass airflow and clean it and the throttle body.
The original idea was to make a replica of the intake mod posted in the tech section! However we had a hard time trying to find the pipe for a good price and then the bending seemed like it was gonna cost also! Then there was the drier pipe... All of this was building cost! In a few trips to the hardware store we had our answer! About 2.5" of thin wall pvc, 1 brass fitting, some washers and o-rings and 2 connectors from the plumbing department (3" to 3" and 3" to 2"). Plus a few feet of hose from the auto store comes to about +/- $17!!!
Our idea was to heat the pipe then bend it! That didn't go so well, but my friend keenly noticed that the angle is almost produced exactly by the rubber hose originally on the TB side! We mounted the opposite end of that hose on the TB and were able to use the original PCV intake. then the 3" to 3" connector, then about 6" of the pipe with the other PCV intake, the 3" to 2" connects to the MAF...
And that's it.
only about $17 in parts and labor! Plus about 1/4 tank in trips to the hardware store and hard test drive afterwards!
I must say that was a well spent $17. The mod really seems to increase throttle response throughout the RPM band, also increased idle from 900 (before) to 1000. That is a job for tomorrows boredom!
If someone could guide me through the process in which to post images I would gladly put up a few for you guys to see. Thanks.

Right on Travis! I'm assuming you did the ISR mod for the 3.0 posted by Corey. Good deal!
Anyway, in order to post pics, you'll need some webspace to do it. You can sign up at many places to host pics. http://www.montypics.com seems to be a popular place to store pics for posting in forums.
Once uploaded, you can use the IMG button when making a post here in the forum. You just put the URL to the pic in the field when the little pop-up window appears after you press the IMG button.

Yes she nearly jumped (backed) into my nabors pool! The difference was verry noticable!

(that is my spell checkers neme. He happens to have left me for a movie:pat: ) There is a new thred for you on the bord! Also having had some experiance with open air elements I find that if you put a bend in the intake b/t the intake restriction (TB) and the opening to atmosphere the noise is reduced! Also the longer the tube the less the noise. Thats what were getting away from with these mods though, compormising serenety for power

No, the PVC will be just fine! Like I sed at first we tried to bend the pipe... This involved a BBQ and a hot fire! The bend couldnot be made due to the temp that the pipe had to be heated to to make it soft eneouf to bend! Short of and engine fire that pipe wont be touched.

Your ISR Mod looks great. Can you tell me what type of brass fitting you purchased? And the size/lenght of hose to get? I want to do this mod in the very near future and yours looks right up my alley. What year is your truck?
