Isn't that a tad high? mine idles at around 600-700.

 

I just finished this mod last night, it turned out pretty good, except that the 3" to 2" coupler is now rubbing on the sparkplug wire retaining clip on the dist. I'll get around to trying to adjust that a little better tonight. Other than that, truck feels good... better throttle response, feels stronger.

I used a separate breather filter instead of adding the fitting to the PVC pipe.

I also have 9+ feet left of the pipe if anyone in the bay area wants to do this mod...

 

What's the deal with the higher idle? Anyone else had this problem? I guess you could just adjust it afterwards.

Hey guys, I got a couple of questions for you guys about doing the mod the way Travis did.

First off, where did the pics go? Anyone have them saved? That would help out tremendously!

Travis mentions only buying ONE brass fitting for this mod. I thought there were 2 hoses that need to be relocated?

And for these fittings, could I JB weld the fittings into the PVC pipe and leave the nut off on the inside? I'd make sure it was air tight.

I did this exact mod on my Runner. I don't have pic's at this time (I'm at work and don't have the pic's on my work computer).

But here are the answers your questions AdamF:

1. Only one brass fitting is needed. The beauty of this version of the ISR mod, is that is uses the original rubber intake elbow that comes on your 3.0L. You actually take the elbow off and flip it around, so that the end that normally fits into the 90 degree plastic box now fits onto the throttle body. This elbow has a nipple on it and flipping it allows you to utilize the nipple to run the hose from the elbow to the valve cover vent by the oil fill cap. I couldn't use the same hose because it had bends in it that didn't conform to the new position so I needed to get a new piece of hose.

2. I used the white PVC pipe that is used for drains. A lot of guys here on the forum were using the gray electrical conduit PVC pipe that has a thinner wall.....they ran into melting problems. I painted the PVC black and it not only looks good and won't melt as easily, but the pipe walls were thick enough for me to use a brass fitting with a threads on one end....this allowed me to use a tap to thread the PVC pipe and then screw the brass fitting in with a little JB Weld to keep it secure. Thus, it is air tight and doesn't pose the problem of a nut falling off and getting sucked into my intake.

So, I actually modified Travis' mod and I've been running mine since late spring with no problems.
