hey guys i just bought a 97 4runner less than a month ago. at the time i bought it, it was a cloudy day and my rig seemed like it was dark navyish blue. but after that weekend, at work my co-workers were making fun of it saying it was a purple truck. i was like wtf?? i looked at it and it did have hues of purple in it.
they were telling me that its probably a custom paint job b/c there were little blotches all over the hood, and also, ive never seen a purple runner before. but the interior seems to match(blueish gray). i looked at the door jamb, but the toyota code-chart thingy is a lot more complicated than my acura's and i couldnt understand it. i searched for the color on this site, but no matches. and the info on 1997 models didnt even list a color that was close to it.
my question is, is my color factory? or custom? it looks almost like the sapphire blue pearl that comes on the 3rd gen supras(if some of u are familiar). its like blueish purple or vice versa.

 

Got any pics? It doesn't sound at all like any of the colors offered in 97. It's hard to tell without pics though

 

The 97's did come in purple, my friend has one. Grey interior also.

 

The original color code can be found on the driver's side door opening, along with the VIN and manufacture date. If that label is missing, your 4Runner most likely has been repainted.

click on the link in my sig its the same color i bet. i hated it at first but it is by far the prettiest color with black parts hung on it. its not pruple its metalic grey/blue. i caught ˟˟˟˟ for it at first but now everyone wants it. ill have to take some new pics i just washed it tongiht and it shines like a damn mirror and looks drop dead sexy. screw what other people think, i like the fact that in different lights it changes colors. at night under overhead lamps it looks the best i think a deep metalic grey with blue and purple swirled into it

Just kidding.....its a 4Runner doesn't matter what colour it is!!! Its all about the lines!!!!

 

no..., thats a nice color, but thats gray w/ a little hint of blue/purple. mine is just....purple!! i does look wierd though. just different. and according to the color chart, i guess stellar blue is the closest. but the color on the chart looks nothing like it. my car is more purple, its lighter, and the paint is more "electrifying" sort of speak. i have pics on my digi cam, if someone can post em up for me plz? and yea, im sure its factory b/c the vin tags are on the door jamb, doors, fenders, etc.

so i guess it is stellar blue? but that chart does it no justice.
