Would it be safe or a good idea to mount a CO2 bottle under the truck pass side, next to the exhuast? I have a 20lb bottle and it is a little too big. I was going to go and trade it in for a 15lb(same length just skinner. Would the heat from exhuast be to much? Also can you guys post some pics of your setup? Or some links. thanks

Aw heck, I bet it'll be fine there. May be a little hard to reach the regulator though. I'm thinking of putting mine under the bed. I doubt the exhaust will heat it up too bad.

personally i would just buy a tank mount and put it in the bed of the truck...you're not going to carry it with you all time so a temp location is good I just dont like the idea of having that under the truck not that it would explode or anything

A C02 bottle will not work correctly unless it is in the upright position.
Laying on its side it will not work right.

Get a bed mount.

Yeah that's what I was told too, it will damage the regulator. Unless you remove it and place it in an upright position before each use. Also if it gets too hot it will blow it's pressure release valve and you'll need to get a new valve.

I made a bracket for the tank (15lb aluminum tank). Notice I used lots of rubber any where the tank is in contact with metal. Scratches can ruin a pressure vessel if they are bad enough.

 

Corey is right. I was considering cutting a hole in the bed of my truck and fabbing a bracket to "lower" it through the bed floor so that most of the bottle would be below the bed, but the regulator would be in the bed. But, I decided against it since I have mine mounted to the side of my truck box now.

 

Here is a direct quote from Power Tanks website on Chris Geiger's setup that is pictured on there in two photos.

If I had a 1st gen, it would be mounted to the roll bar.
I really wish I had a full size roll bar built back there instead of the little one I have for the tank.
Then my cargo box could have sat between the two floor bars.

Who knows, that may be a distant project for me in the future.
