The cluch on this particular '93 P/U has a really high engagement/disengagement point. . .it doesn't start grabbing until you dang near have the clutch pedal all the way out, like the last .5-.75" of travel. I popped the hood, checked the vaccum lines (looked good), checked for leaks (none I could see) and checked the fluid (nasty, very nasty...). I bled the line with new fluid thinking that would help and it didn't; also, there is absolutely no air in the lines. The new fluid had no effect what-so-ever, and neither did the clutch adjustment up under the dash. Anyone have any ideas?

Is the pedal hieght 6 13/64" and is the free play 13/64-39/64"? I doubt this is the problem but it would not hurt to have these set correctly.

 

how many miles do you have on the clutch? When mine pressure plate got tired and just stopped holding I replaced the PP and disk and the engagement point went back to what I consider normal - pretty close to the floor.

 

Pedal height and freeplay should be close, but no matter what I did it didn't affect the engagement point at all.

Not sure of the mileage on the clutch, it was just purchased. The odometer says 190k though...

 

next time you drive it check to see if the clutch is slipping under load (4th or 5th gear lower rpms acceleration). If you don't have a tach, listen carefully as you take your foot off the gas, if you hear the rpms drop, your clutch is not holding.

On all my Toyotas, when the clutches were near worn out, the engagement point would be very high, but you STILL have to shove the pedal all the way into the carpet to disengage it...
