Can you use the K&N oil and stuff to clean a TrueFlow? AutoZone has the little airfilter cleaning kit them K&N. I dont wanna have to order the TrueFlow kit offline if I dont have to.

 

If it's an oiled gauze type filter then yes, you can use the K&N kit. I use that same kit to clean my cheapie ebay filter too

 

Okay, thanks. I'll have to get some. Just got back from a camping trip driving on a dirt road for a 8 miles behind a Suburban one way and a F=350 the other. Its looking pretty nasty.

 

The K&N is a gauze type filter, the TrueFlow is a foam filter, while the cleaners and oils are most likely pretty similar I went with the TrueFlow cleaning kit just in case... I'm sure someone will chime in with a little bit more insight, I just played it safe with mine. Good luck.

 

Gees Im an idiot. I was thinking gauze as foam. I knew what I meant, I just read it wrong....haha.

 

Do it right and buy the True Flow cleaning kit. I bought mine a couple weeks ago here...

The other aspect of this is that you popped for the TrueFlow in the first place - why cheap out on the cleaning kit that you should get a number of cleanings out of?

BTW - The instructions for the TrueFlow specifically say NOT to use guaze filter cleaning kits. Something about the filter oil being the wrong consistency for the foam, if memory serves.

Bottom line, just spring for the kit that is made for your filter!

 

Agree with what others have said. You opted for the True Flow kit, so you might as well get the proper cleaning/oil kit right? Don't let a little more $$ and a few days shipping time keep you from buying the TF kit.

That's like saying you could buy a cheap oil filter (insert brand of your choice) from walmart, rather than going to the dealer, b/c walmart's closer. Just b/c the item may work okay in your vehicle, doesn't mean it's the best for your truck.


I ordered my TF cleaning/oil kit online w/ free shipping and I had it in a couple days. IMO, stick w/ the TF kit.
