Here is a picture of the Tail Lamp Covers tha are part of the "SR5 Chrome Package".
The grille covers are chromed plastic and have 3M adhesive strips on the back to attach them to the face of the tail lamp lenses.
The Retail on these jewels is $183.08 and I paid $137.31 :pat:

In concept I agree with you but I believe that the delicate minimalist design of the grille covers makes me think that it really would not look that good unless the body color was a stark contrast to the lamp lenses; however, V-Tech makes slatted covers that I know you have seen. They are made to be painted and even on your old style lamps would look great IMO --- if they have them for your model year. What I have seen is a PN that goes up to ’95. They even make some now in carbon fiber and brushed aluminum, but I don’t think those are made for any Toyotas.

The other company that makes slotted tail lamp covers is Auto Ventshades.

I have these things on a white truck and even though I tried those new APC Euro modular tail lights, I went back to the slotted covers because they just look so sleek --- even though some might think they are passé.
The chrome Toyota covers are just too expensive to start changing their finish. BTW, they are made out of ABS plastic.

I just test fitted the chrome covers on my '02 lenses and the effect is so subtle that I wonder how good it would look in any type of dark shade.
Jason, do you have a picture of Ron S's mod?

ou actually remind me A LOT of him. That isn't a bad thing. He had one great 4Runner and you are well on your way!
I will have to look for a pic.

Jason, there was an article writen in a SUV rag on the RS aka Ron's old truck. Which if you ever see the truck in person you may agree that it is absolutely gorgeous and very well done, shoot its even a stick!

Thanks for the kind comment. Can you put me in touch with this neurotic anal retentive character.
I searched high and low for someone to plate chrome and could find NO ONE who would do it or recommend doing it. This was an old thread but I still am very much interested if anyone has a source. I know about the Testers painit mod and even have a rattle can of the correct color.

Call Greg Meskil at METRO TOYOTA (800)581-3033 and tell him you want the chrome package covers that I just got from him. He'll know what to order. I would give you the PN, but I have it at home and I forgot to include it when I started this thread. Sorry
BTW, although these are expensive they are really well made and look just like chrome plated metal. They are not flimsy, poorly finished construction.
