Bad Bearings Causing Rattle??
#1
I have a rattle that is coming from the front end of my 87 4Runner. I was out turkey hunting with my girlfriends dad last weekend when I rememberd to ask him what the HECK the sound was. I have been trying to figure out how to describe the sound for a while now. The best way I can describe it is to take a tin can with both ends off and putting a metal pipe a little smaller than the can through it and then pulling your hand across the can so it spins AND rattles at the same time. That is almost exactly what it sounds like. It doesn't sound like its moving as fast I as am though. It usually rattles when I am going up hill and accelerating and turning left. This leads me to belive that its somthing to do with my right wheel. The whole reason I ask is becuase I don't think GF's Dad really heard the sound. I would go "There, hear that!!!" and then I would be gone. Talk about frustrating
Anyway, he said the thought it was the bearings and the other compenent there, I don't remember what its called. I wanted to see if it was something to do with my 4x4 or the bearing. Thanks, and sorry for the length.

1. Spindle bushings-where the axle passes through the hub to the front wheel.
and
2. If ytou have Lock out hubs, check in the hub body itself. The hub that spins with the wheel (engaged or not) rides in a brass sleeve. Requires grease w/ moly per TFSM or could be worn. That one drove me nuts for weeks finding it!
I am basing this on a stock IFS.
