chrome bumpers

I'm not quite fond of my chrome bumpers on my 97ltd, I like the look on the newer models which match the color of the bumper with the body, does anyone know if chrome bumpers can be painted???

They can be painted but they will chip worse than the stock painted ones do. I'd stay chrome, because those chips will drive you nuts.

Toyota was just looking to change something if you ask me.

96-98 Limiteds had chrome bumpers standard.

Seems like all the chome bumpers are less prone to dings too.
All the Runner I see around here with color keyed bumpers have small dings all over, as to the ones with chrome that have none on most. Maybe thicker?

Talking Painted bumpers

I just got finished putting my chrome painted OEM black front bumper back on. With the black grill, black pearl emblems and black rear bumper (OEM chrome) it looks stellar! It is going to stay parked until I sell it, so no dings for me! I wish I had a pic, but it was too dark tonight to do it justice. It looks awesome!

What did the black pearl emblems set you back?

Black pearls from an 01-02 $40 on Ebay
Black pearl 4x4 emblem $25 at the dealer
Black grill $100 at dealer

The 01-02 black pearls have a larger front grill emblem so you'll need an old black pearl grill emblem or a new 01-02 grill. I wanted the black grill anyway, so it was a no-brainer.

Good luck!

I remember when I was buying my truck, I asked about black pearls, and they said it was a few HUNDRED more for the black pearls for the LTD. For some reason I am thinking of more than $400. I just had the exact price in my head a few weeks ago for some reason. I'll have to look to see where I got it from.

yeah got rear ended by some lady in a beat up Volvo...Like 8-10mph...From the shock I thought I was going to find my rear crunched...not a dent when i got back there...you should have seen her car

No insurance I'm sure...I come up to her window and she goes "I sorry. I no looookeeeeng." I just rolled my eyes, looked at the damage to the front of her vehicle, smiled and said "No problem." got in the truck and drove off

In my mind chrome equals metal equals TRUCK. Color Keying is what they do to push SUV's in the luxury direction and away from the utility aspext. That being said I think black painted bumpers (ARB TJM and all the customs) look bad-a$$ no matter what color your truck might be...

Can you even get the tundra witha chrome bumper? I'm sure you can...has to be possible...right?

how do you think the outcome would be if you sprayed the chrome bumper with rhino lining? would it adhere very well?

thats what i was thinkin. the new paint scheme we're planning on is white, with gray rhino lined bumper, fender flares, bed and rails and from the chrome strips on the doors and side-down. take the chrome strips off and spray those gray. maybe the chrome on the grille too.

Yeah black can look hot. I swear I've seen a Tundra with chrome before somewhere. Might have been a 2000 though. Whether it's an option (ie extra money), I don't know.
