I am just finding it amazing that an oxygen sensor hits the traction control system lights. I have an pre cat oxygen sensor code and the traction control light is stating that its off. I even tried reseting the system to make sure that wasn't the issue. I will double check the brake fluid just incase I am blind but that is kinda a major glitch in my books.
do you think this is toyota's way of making sure you take it to a shop?

You may already know all of this but I will post my adventure of this esoteric VSC/TRAC sensor connection just in case.
I have a 2001 3.4 4runner.
This may be different for you
My local Toyotech said they could install the Toyota pre-cat A/F sensor for 300ish bucks.
I ordered my DENSO pre-cat A/F sensor (make, model, year specific) from the rain forest (104ish bucks), bought the OBDII scanner for post 96 cars (20ish) along with it.
Confirmed the code before unpacking the new sensor (can't return it if opened) sprayed the studs with Deep Creep and let them sit overnight.
Confirming the code is important so you don't end up throwing money at the car. Spraying the studs ensures the nuts come off come off.
The next day, I disconnected the battery, changed the sensor (for me-2 nuts for the sensor and 1 bolt for the harness/connector), reconnected the battery.
Easy access just crawled under behind the right front tire. Sensor is nearest to engine on exhaust pipe and harness is bolted to transmission.
Rescanned and no codes. All of the lights were off. Did the drive cycle as suggested by TSB. This prepares the "readiness monitors" on the vehicle for inspection.
All that "Bank 1, sensor 1" mumbo jumbo sounds good at the service desk...but the techs here are more honest than one might expect.
Had it inspected and it passed with flying colors.
Runs like new money, too! Shifts smoother, warms up faster, idles like a champ (maybe because I just did the timing belt and water pump a month ago)With those lights on, I was getting about 200 miles for half a tank of gas. Now it gets 230 miles for the same amount of gas.
I went overboard and prepped the mating surface on the exhaust before installing the new sensor.
Hopes this helps.
Folks here are a great resource and I thank you all for your guidance with that Operation Enduring Timing Belt and Water Pump.

Well you might hate me then. I get 630km per tank intown driving (nothing over 50mph) with short burst driving and lots of warmup. I am closer to 9L/100km on the highway.
I will be replacing the oxygen sensor and then the spark plugs tonight. Going to the E3 plugs
Ps. I never get bored listening to what others go through.

I drive about 65-75 mph (112 kmh) every day to work with about 30 seconds of warmup. Your km/tank seems about right. When I do the math, I am getting about 415 miles (678 km)/tank. Would probably be better with street tires
Great that you take good care of that truck!

I have 3 different yotas. 1988 supra 7mgte, 1992 4runner 3.0v6 auto (selling on Monday) and the 2003 4runner. I am a yota owner for sure. You should see the stuff I fix. I like my vehicles pristine and performing to the Max of my pocket book.
Ps. Supra has to be my favorite on the highway. 350hp right now
