Check Engine Light

Last night while I was driving home from college I went to pass a truck and the Check Engine Light came on. Does anyone have an idea what this could be?

Take it to AutoZone and see what the code is. Mine keeps throwing the P0171 code. I have had great help from the people here. Post back with the error code.

I went down to autozone and the code came up that the camshaft postion sensor was bad (I forgot to write down the actual code for you guys). I went home to see how easy it was to get to and noticed the plug hanging there. I feel like a complete dumbass but i guess it happened when I was changing the belts on my rig. I bumped and broke the camshaft position sensor connector but I got it put back together and the light went right out. Thanks for everyones help offerings anyway.

That's why OBD is so invaluable.
Glad you got that fixed!

So i shut it off again and then restart it and there's no light on, put it back in gear and start going it comes back on, I dont know what it is. It also has a pretty heafty oil leak wich im hoping its comeing from the valve cover gaskets HELP ME OUT GUYS IM SCARED FOR MY BABY

Same advice as above. Get the code read. Actually, with a 1990, you can do it yourself by shorting out a couple of pins and counting blinks on the CEL (The blink pattern will tell you the code). I'm not sure where the diagnostic connector is for this in the 3.0, or what the terminal numbers are, but I'm sure somebody else with a 3.0 will chime in, or try a search.
