car wont start - stuck at work :(

It sounds like you have two separate problems at once.
When you turn the key to start and hear a single distinct "CLICK" and the starter does not run, then that most likely is worn starter contacts in the soleniod. You can remove the starter and replace the contacts are just install a whole new starter. Getting it out is the hard part.
That rapid CLICK CLICK CLICK is caused by insufficent current to keep the solenoid engaged. It can be a weak battery or high resistance in the starter cable or ground cable.
The cure for a weak battery is to figure out why it is weak. It could be bad or the alternator is not recharging it properly, or again it could be high resistance in the cables.
The cure for weak cables is to identify which one(s) has high resistance by doing a voltage drop test and then replacing the bad ones.
Like I said, I think you have two different problems at once.
Good luck!

Your problem sounds EXACTLY the same as the problem I had. Click click click. I eventually burned out my cheap Wal Mart battery. Replaced it, worked fine for a month or 2. Then click click buzzzzzzz clikc click DEAD. Replaced the starter contacts and VIOLA! Works fine every time now. Here's a writeup I did on my V6
