Capabilities of a stock 4runner

Hey, i have a 02 4Runner SR5 4wd. I'm going up to VA with some friends in a couple week to visit another friend. He's got a Jeep trail by his house that he says is really easy and we were talkin about goin through it with my 4runner and his Jeep. Is this a good idea? lol. I have nothing done performance wise, just the stock 4wd, also on lame highway tires... (something Sigma's ill check when im outside if it makes a difference) Is this a horribly bad idea? or will i make it through if I avoid anything that looks someone troublesome. note* i'm also new to offroading, hence the stock runner lol.

anyways give me your opinions dont want to drive up to VA and mess something up.

You will be fine, just don't do anything that you are not comfortable with. Your tires may be a hinderonce if its wet or gravely. Just take the trail slow and steady and don't show off. Have fun.

go slowly.
Bring snatch straps etc

if it looks like it might damage the truck - it will.

Most insurance wont cover off road damage... keep this in mind.

90% of off roadin is the DRIVER...
There are lots of stories of people who gave up on their maxed out 4x4 rig for a stock truck to take through the Rubicon because it was more of a challenge

i think it'll be ok...as long as its not wet/rooty/muddy youll have lots of fun. imho the 4runner is a pretty capable rig in stock form. if you got the locker, even better

Insurance WILL cover off-road damage. You will have your deductible etc., but it will be covered.

I agree with Paul H., if you don't feel comfortable, don't do it. Off-roading takes practice to learn your vehicle, and the terrain.

2002 - No lockers.

If you've got running boards, might want to take them off to get more clearance. And if you mess up a bumper or two, who cares? ARB is just a few clicks away.

I've run stock 4runners a few times but mine have been older so a couple scratches aren't a big deal. Drop a few psi out of your tires and show the jeep what you're made of

Toyota's E-locker is a very strong unit and positively locks the rear just like any other aftermarket locker from ARB or Detroit.... Don't know where that statement comes from.

Guys - its an 02 - only a center diff lock.

Search for the ANDYMOD thread - there will be alot of reading - but in there you will see a pic of the connector that can be removed on the brake (for lack of better description for 01/02) master cylinder/assembly that will defeat VSC/TRAC - important to know when you get into the loose/slippery stuff.

ive had no problems (besides clearance) in my stock 2WD (w/running boards)
the jeep will have to follow you!

driver ability has most to do with it (and it helps that im somewhat crazy)
