the lower mount is usually a tight fit, just keep pulling and wiggling it and it will come out eventually

you took both bolts all the way out right, the pivot bolt and the locking bolt for the adjuster?

I've replaced mine 3 times now, and every time it's difficult. Spray the top mount with WD-40 or the like, then hit the alt downward with a screwdriver/hammer. It WILL come out, it's just really stuck in there. On the way back in, lube up the top mount really well and shove it in there.

Good luck...
