Can you run 2 different gear ratios with ADD??
My question isn't as dumb as it sounds I promise! I'm currently looking for a 4.30 E-Locker diff for the front and back. If this is my only ride, can I go with installing just the back if I don't have enough time to install both. Basically could I run the 4.30 rear with my 4.10 front as long as I don't engage the 4wd?? Wasn't sure because the front axles always turn with the ADD.

im curious about this too. i know part of the front diff spins because the front CVs do but I know the front DS doesn't spin so I don't know where the "disconnect" falls

I believe you can do this, as long as you don't shift into 4WD.
I have actually ran a 4.30 rear diff with 4.10 front diff offroad (in dirt, big no-no on pavement). I don't reccomend doing it, but I blew up my rear diff and only had a 4.30 to replace it with. I also have manual hubs on the rig I did this in and they were unlocked on the pavement.
I'm 99.9% sure that the front driveshaft spins independently of the rear when the transfer case is in 2WD.
Disclaimer: This is just my $.02, it's not my fault if I'm wrong and you grenade something.

The ADD disconnects the front left axle. When in 2hi, the Tcase is disconnected, and so is the front left axle. If you leave it in 2hi you should be fine. I would recommend removing the front DS, then damage is impossible.

I like the 10% smaller tire idea.

And wmflyfisher I ran my 2001 with the new 4.30 e-locked axle in the rear and my old front diff for 3 weeks with no problems. I didn't remove the driveshaft. I did pull the 4WD fuse though, just in case I accidently hit the button.
