Built 3.4 from F2tuning?

I was asked a question from a friend of mine that has a 97 limited about the potential of a built, normally aspirated 3.4. He absolutly loves his 4runner. It was even hit and the insurance company was going to total it but he wanted it fixed. Even with 140K on it. He knows alot about his other cars, a built 94 911 turbo and an Audi TT that is moded also but little about the runner. It was always his reliable ride and now he wants to freshen the 3.4 up.
I thought about F2tuning. Anyone inquire about or know anyone who built up a 3.4 without S/c? There are factory 6's putting out some Hp like the 270hp Acura 3.2 so I'm thinking 300 from a normally aspirated 3.4 that is reliable is not out of the question. What do you all think or hear about this?
And please don't say" with the right money, anything is possible ! I know that! I was thinking reasonable say maybe 3K to 5K range or so...
Just wanted some input before/if we contact F2tuning.

As far as I know, there are only 2 5VZ-FE's that have been modified by F2Uning and both of them are forced induction engines. You're in uncharted territory. You're probaby going to have to be the first and have them figure out what they can do for you.

EDIT - Let me add to this and say that with intake, headers, exhaust, ECU tuning, head work and some other items, like maybe underdrive pulleys, that you could easily pull 50HP out the engine. Maybe a bit more. You'd get a good bit more torque, too. But I don't think you're going to get to 300HP without going the forced induction route. I could be wrong, but that's my best guess.

You could mount another 3.4 in the cargo area. Hook the two together, and get 300 hp.

First off you'll have to run premium gas and advance the timing. Then I'd go get the MSD Dis-4 ignition module, then intake, headers, exhaust. Next I'd bore out the throttle body, but remember to overbore the intake manifold by the same amount other wise the larger TB is almost useless. After that the only way to build more power will be to get into the engine. Search around and see if there are any after market cams. If you took it to a machine you could get both pieces of the manifold ported and polished. Also maybe some head work.

Honestly, there is almost no way you'll be able to get 300hp for 3-5k. The acura 3.2 makes 270hp, but also has honda's newest vtec technology, which helps to extract more power from the engine. It'd be interesting to see what you can get from the 3.4 though, good luck with that and pm if you have any questions.
