Broken upper link. Is it common?

I posted this on the other runner forum but i want as much info as possible

Background on the truck...absolutely babied (02 sport)from 01-09 with the occasional desert back road. from 03/09-present little more aggressive but not the limit.

desert southwest its whole life (just took off running boards and after the initial torque to take off the bolt everything came off with fingers.)

pretty OCD with dirt on the undercarrage (whole life)

stock everything.

Ive been hearing a "pop" on the occasional bump and i was on a mission to find it.....

driver side upper

Im going to just build my own but is there any aftermarket ones out there? how bout the bushings? where to find those?

wow. Sway bar links are common to break but rear upper links are definitely not.

Nobody makes aftermarket.
If you build your own, I think you can still get OEM bushings from Toyota.
It'd probably be worth finding a used pair and replace both.

Just for future reference...
Sonoransteel.com and Toytec.com make beefy lowers.

I picked up a set from a guy on the other board and since it doesn't seem to be a normal occurance i'll just put factory ones back in. The sonoran lower units are nice but spendy. I have a few feet if 1 3/4 x .250 layin around from another project i might use, now i just have to see if i get the bushing and sleeve togather or if i have to make my own.

Aftermarket Rear Upper & Lower Links (Control Arms)

Since my rear links are now 12 years old, and I'm getting a bit of "wander" from the back... I'll likely upgrade these parts soon. Of course first thing to do is actually check my bushings condition. Here are a couple options:

http://www.thetoyoutfitters.net/Control_Arms.html
For Upper and Lower

http://www.chaosfab.com/toyaccess_taco.php
For Upper and Lower (but EXPENSIVE)

http://www.sonoransteel.com/index.ph...products_id=19
Lower Links only

http://www.toyteclifts.com/index.php...mart&Itemid=72
Lower Links only

WOW , Old thread.
I have actually broken two upper links. Both while wheeling in Moab. Both times I drove off the trail and into town. Both on the same link, opposite ends.

Has anyone here used the upper links sold by The Toy Outfitters? Did they install without any issues?

TIA

my upper link broke on the drivers side awhile back too. but my bushings were really siezed, we had to spray brake cleaner on the bushing to get it soft enough to take it off the axle.
